SURGICAL EXTRACTION
Surgical Extraction & Wisdom Tooth Removal in Dubai
At Saiganesh Medical Centre, we perform both routine and surgical tooth extractions with precision and care. Surgical extraction becomes necessary when a tooth is impacted (partially or fully trapped in the gums or bone) or broken in such a way that it cannot be removed through simple extraction.
What Is a Surgical Extraction?
A surgical extraction involves lifting the gum tissue (gingiva), removing a portion of the surrounding bone, and in some cases, sectioning the tooth into smaller parts to safely remove it from the socket. This procedure is typically done under local anesthesia and is recommended when a tooth is difficult to access or remove conventionally.
Why Is Wisdom Tooth Extraction Necessary?
Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, often erupt in misaligned or impacted positions due to lack of space. Leaving them untreated can cause:
• Pain and swelling during eruption
• Decay or damage to adjacent teeth
• Infection or gum issues
• Misalignment of other teeth after orthodontic treatment
To prevent these complications, wisdom tooth extraction is often advised.
How Long Does Wisdom Tooth Removal Take?
Wisdom tooth extraction typically takes 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the tooth’s position and complexity. Simple cases may be quicker, while deeply impacted teeth may require more time.
Why Are Sutures Required After Extraction?
After removing the tooth, your dentist may place a suture (stitch) to:
• Protect the socket from food particles
• Control bleeding
• Promote faster healing
Sutures are generally removed after 7 days, during a follow-up visit.
